Manage your prescreening (income, credit, questions)

RentEngine offers cutting-edge prescreening to stop unqualified leads and scammers.

Prescreening is fully configurable, giving you control over minimum rental requirements (credit/income) and custom questions.

Fraud Guard is our suite of fraud prevention tools to detect and intercept scammers before it's too late.

This guide will show you how to create your own Prescreening Templates and adjust your Fraud Guard settings.

Create and edit the Prescreening Templates

Navigate to Settings > Showings > Prescreening
Choose an existing template or create new one by pressing the "New Template" button at the top right
Name the template by clicking on the pencil icon
If you'd like to make this the default Prescreening Template for new vacancies, click the "Set as Default" button. (You can still create multiple templates and assign them to specific units—we'll explain this further below.)
Use the sliders to set the minimum credit and income requirements. Prospects can see a range unless you check the option "Ask for the credit and income as free text instead of pre-defined ranges" so that they have to mannually input that data.
You can adjust the wording of the questions and define the rejection logic using the radio buttons.

If you only want to collect information without affecting prescreening results, select the "Do not reject (informational)" option.

If you select "Yes", the system will reject prospects who answer "Yes" to that question.

If you select "No", the system will reject prospects who do not answer "Yes".

Prospects will see questions in the form of states as you can see in the image below, so try to put questions in the form of Statements. For example: "I have been convicted of a felony."

Keep in mind that the first question will always be the one related to Housing Vouchers (the one with a small description beneath it). This is because when vouchers are accepted, prospects with housing vouchers will automatically bypass income verification.

Add a new prescreening question by clicking the "New" button or remove unnecessary questions by clicking the red trashcan icon
Configure your Fraud Guard settings for this Prescreening Template
When you're finished, press "Save" at the top right

To assign the Prescreening Template to an active vacancy, edit the property and on the last page choose the preferred Prescreening Template from the dropdown as seen on this image:
