Re-Enabling Camera Permissions to schedule showings

Re-Enabling Camera Permissions to schedule showings

Prospects are always prompted to enable camera access when taking a photo of their ID or selfie during the pre-showing verification process in RentEngine. However, some users either:

  • Accidentally deny access by tapping too quickly
  • Don’t see the prompt at all
  • Report issues like “it didn’t ask for permission,” “it auto-denied,” or “it’s not letting me take the picture”

Below are the steps you can share with them to manually re-enable camera access and continue the showing process.

How to Manually Re-Enable Camera Permissions

If you're using Chrome

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Scroll down and tap Chrome.
  3. Tap Camera.
  4. Set to Allow.
  5. Go back to Chrome and refresh the page.
  6. Tap Allow again if prompted.

Alternatively:

  1. Open Chrome and visit the site.
  2. Tap the camera or mic icon on the left of the address bar (only appears if settings were previously changed).
  3. Turn permissions on.

If the permission never appeared, follow the steps in Apple’s guide for Chrome.

On Android

  1. Open the Settings app on your device.
  2. Tap Apps > See all apps (if needed).
  3. Select Chrome.
  4. Tap Permissions > Camera.
  5. Select Allow only while using the app.
  6. Return to Chrome and refresh the page.

Alternatively:

  1. In Chrome, tap the ⋮ menuSettings.
  2. Go to Site settingsCamera or Microphone.
  3. If the site is listed under Blocked, tap the site → choose Allow.

More info in Google’s Chrome Android help.

On Desktop

  1. Open Chrome.
  2. Click the ⋮ menu (top-right) → Settings.
  3. Go to Privacy and securitySite settings.
  4. Under Permissions, select Camera or Microphone.
  5. Choose the default option you want:

  • To allow, select Sites can ask to use your camera.
  • To manually allow or unblock a site:
    • Under “Not allowed,” select the site and change to Allow.
    • Or remove restrictions by clicking the 🗑️ Delete icon.

If you're using Safari

On iPhone or iPad (iOS 13 and above)

  1. Open Safari.
  2. Tap the “AA” icon in the address bar.
  3. Tap Website Settings.
  4. Set Camera permissions to Allow.

On iOS below 13

  1. Go to your iPhone’s Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap Safari.
  3. Tap Camera and choose Ask or Allow.

More info in Apple’s guide for Safari.

📱 If you're using a non-browser iOS or Android app

Sometimes users are accessing the showing flow through an embedded browser or app. Here’s how to check permissions:

On iOS Apps

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Find the app.
  2. Tap Camera and set it to Allow.

Also check:

  • Lockdown Mode:

Go to SettingsPrivacy & SecurityLockdown Mode

→ Tap Configure Web Browsing → Make sure the app is excluded.

On Android Apps

  1. Go to Settings > Apps.
  2. Find the app (e.g., Chrome, your browser).
  3. Tap PermissionsCamera → Set to Allow.

While They Troubleshoot (Fallback Option)

If the prospect still has issues or needs to move forward quickly:

  1. Ask them to send a clear photo of their ID via the chat in the Command Center.
  2. Manually ask the screening questions.
  3. If they meet your rental criteria, go to Actions > Schedule Showing to manually book it.

⚠️ Note: This bypasses the pre-screening automation — we recommend this only when you’re confident they qualify.
