Overview
This guide covers the tools available in RentEngine to help prevent rental fraud on self-guided showings, found in Settings → Company and your Prescreening Template's Fraud Guard settings.
Settings → Company: Watermarks
Watermarking your listing photos makes it harder for scammers to lift your images and repost them elsewhere as a fake listing.
Enable Add Watermarks to Photos and configure:
Watermark Type: your company name, or custom text you write yourself
Watermark Darkness: darker watermarks are harder to edit out, but more visible on the photo
Watermark Coverage: Single (centered), Tiled, Dense Tiled, or Extra Dense Tiled
Some teams use the custom text option to add an anti-fraud message directly onto the photo, for example, noting that listings are never posted on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist.
Settings → Company: Anti-Fraud Flyer
A printable flyer warning prospects about rental fraud, branded with your logo, colors, and leasing number.
If a scammer is showing your property while posing as the owner or an authorized agent, this flyer lets the real prospect recognize the warning signs in person, even if the scammer never mentions RentEngine.
To set it up:
Go to Settings → Company → Anti-Fraud Flyer
Customize the Company name, Headline, Subheadline, and Warning text
Click Print / Save as PDF
Fraud Guard
Fraud Guard, configured per prescreening template under Settings → Showings → Prescreening → Fraud Guard, is your main defense against fraud during a self-guided showing.
It covers ID verification (with AI forensics and liveness checks), phone verification, location verification, and a set of Behavioral checks that flag suspicious patterns like repeat showings, repeated rejections, mismatched price interest, and suspicious GPS activity, holding access codes and requiring PM approval when triggered.
For the full breakdown of every setting, see Set up your prescreening requirements.
