How to Troubleshoot Phone System Issues

Overview

This guide covers the most common phone issues in RentEngine and how to resolve them on desktop and mobile.


Inbound Calls Not Ringing — Desktop

Check notification permissions in Site Settings

If calls are not ringing on your desktop, the most likely cause is that browser notification permissions are not enabled for RentEngine. Look for the bell icon in the top bar of your browser.

  1. Reset notification permissions in your browser Site Settings

  2. Clear your cookies and cache

  3. Refresh the page and try again

Tip: Open RentEngine in an incognito window and test. If calls ring there, this confirms the issue is browser cache and permissions.

Check Do Not Disturb

Do Not Disturb mutes inbound calls on desktop.

  1. Open the Command Center

  2. Look for the Do Not Disturb icon at the bottom left

  3. If it is red, Do Not Disturb is active. Click it to turn it off

Check sound

When reopening RentEngine, make sure to turn on notification permissions so you can hear the sounds.


Inbound Calls Not Ringing — Mobile App

Update the app to the latest version

Check the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) for any available updates and install them.

On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Scroll down and tap RentEngine

  3. Tap Notifications

  4. Disable the toggle, wait a few seconds, then re-enable it

On Android:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps

  3. Find and tap RentEngine

  4. Tap Notifications

  5. Disable, wait a few seconds, then re-enable

Remove the app from Deep Sleep — Android only

Android devices can put apps in Deep Sleep to save battery, which prevents calls from coming through.

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Battery

  3. Tap Background Usage Limits

  4. Find RentEngine in the Sleeping Apps list and remove it

Restart the app and test again.


Outbound Calls Not Connecting — Desktop

Check microphone permissions in Site Settings

  1. Click the lock icon next to the RentEngine URL in your browser address bar

  2. Find Microphone and set it to Allow

  3. Refresh the page and try the call again


Outbound Calls Not Connecting — Mobile App

Check microphone permissions for the RentEngine app

On iPhone:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Scroll down and tap RentEngine

  3. Tap Microphone

  4. Disable the toggle, wait a few seconds, then re-enable it

  5. Restart the RentEngine app and try again

On Android:

  1. Open Settings

  2. Tap Apps

  3. Find and tap RentEngine

  4. Tap Permissions

  5. Tap Microphone

  6. Disable, wait a few seconds, then select Allow only while using the app

  7. Restart the RentEngine app and try again
